SOQ - Printouts

Student Opinion Questionnaire (SOQ)
Sample Printouts

The Student Opinion Questionnaire for grades 1 to 9 (SOQ) assesses student attitudes and opinions about seven aspects of your school including discipline, classroom climate, school climate, learning environment, staff-student relations, perception of self and academic success.

A computer program analyzes SOQ data and prints out item and composite "Percent Positive Response" scores for up to fifteen groups: all students, male students, female students, White students, Hispanic students, Other Ethnic students, and students in each grade level 1 through 9.

General Information Printout (#1 of 2). This printout explains the SOQ scoring procedure and lists the different groups for which summary results can be produced.

 Scoring Notes

 1. Survey results are reported as PERCENT POSITIVE RESPONSE or PPR.
 2. PPR = (SCORED POINTS / POSSIBLE POINTS) X 100
 3. Each item has possible two points > YES=2 and SOMETIMES=1 and NO=0.
 4. Negative items #42 and #48 are adjusted before scoring.
 5. A PPR is computed for each item.
 6. A composite PPR is the mean of the applicable item PPRs.
 7. The total survey PPR is the mean of the seven composite PPRs.

Group Summary Printout (#2 of 2). The two-page group printout shows both composite scores and item scores. A separate printout is generated for each group of students (i.e., all students, by gender, by ethnic group, and by grade level). On the sample "All Students" printout shown below, students gave their highest composite rating (Percent Positive Response, PPR=91) to discipline in the school and their lowest composite rating (PPR=83) to their academic progress. Students gave their highest item rating of PPR=98 to two items #25 (teachers want my best) and #46 (important to obey rules). Students also tied two items for their lowest rating of PPR=64. They were #42 (school work is NOT too hard) and #48 (get POSITIVE attention").
